What 512 Kiwi Orders Actually Told Us

The patterns inside the top 10 — what they reveal about NZ mirror demand

The arched-rectangle split, in numbers

Arched mirrors take 6 of the top 10 slots and 231 units of the 428-unit total — that's 54% of best-seller volume. Rectangles take 3 slots and 64 units (15%). Oval takes 1 slot with 10 units (2.3%). Pure round, irregular, and window mirrors don't make the top 10 because their total unit volumes are lower, not because they perform poorly per customer. Arched dominates because of one mirror — Svelte X at 156 units — and because the arched category has the most products offered (16 vs 14 rectangles). The takeaway: both arched and rectangular are strong, with arched having more volume because our catalogue invests more in arched product variants. If you're choosing based on "what Kiwis buy most," arched is a safer default, but rectangles are a close second.

Size and price: the 160-180cm mid-price sweet spot

Every mirror in the top 10 sits between 155cm and 200cm tall, in widths of 45-100cm, and in the mid-price to upper-mid-price bands. The most expensive mirrors in our catalogue (Louis, Grandeur, Lowen X at 200-220cm) are absent because most NZ homes don't need a 220cm mirror — the average ceiling height is 2.4m, so a 180cm mirror leaves comfortable clearance. The cheapest ultra-compact mirrors (below 155cm) also don't make the list — at that size, a full-length mirror's core job (outfit checking) doesn't work well. The sweet spot for volume is 160cm Svelte, 180cm Titan and Zenith, and 200cm Grandeur for the upper end. This is actually useful design intelligence: if you're unsure what to buy, the population of Kiwi buyers has already done the research and landed here.

Why black frames beat colour (for now)

Black-framed (X-series) mirrors take 6 of the top 10 slots. White/Alba takes 2. Gold/Aurelia takes 1. Frameless takes 1. This distribution reflects current NZ interior trend: black-framed mirrors pair well with the warm neutral palettes that dominate contemporary Kiwi homes (Dulux Natural White walls, oak flooring, linen textiles). Gold had a strong moment 2020-2022 and is stabilising at a lower share as the gold-accents-everywhere trend settles. White (Alba) is growing — expect Alba to creep up the list in coming quarters as more customers reach for the Scandi-coastal look. Frameless is a style outlier: customers who want frameless know why (architectural, minimalist rooms), and Monarch X at position 5 with 21 units shows that demand is real. Expect frameless to grow with minimalism's ongoing popularity.
