Marceau Linen Drum Floor Lamp

Some floor lamps get where they are going with a big sweeping curve. Marceau does not. The arm leaves the pole dead straight, turns once at a sharp 90 degrees, and sets the beige linen drum down just clear of the upright. Small move, completely different look. Next to the curvier lamps it reads drafted, squared off, almost architectural.

Where the shade actually sits
The offset is modest and it is meant to be. The shade sits about 20cm out from the pole centre, enough to lift the light off the upright and nudge it towards the arm of a couch or the edge of a side table. All up the lamp stands 163.5cm tall. Floor width comes in around 49.3cm, measured right across from the outer edge of the base to the outer edge of the shade, so it wants a bit of space but nothing dramatic. The arm is matte black steel, and the round weighted disc base under it, 25cm across and matte black as well, keeps the whole thing planted.

The linen drum
Beige linen, 30cm wide and 18cm tall, on a single E27 socket. A globe is not included, so the mood is your call. Our pick would be a warm white frosted globe for evenings, and save the cool whites for the home office. Linen softens light rather than dropping a hard bright pool of it, which suits a room you actually sit and unwind in.

Sits best
A corner that needs filling, the end of a couch, or beside a chair where you want some glow without switching on the ceiling. The 1.8m cord runs to an inline foot switch, so it goes on and off without you getting up. Best in rooms that have clean lines already going on, black window joinery, square edged furniture, that sort of thing.
